Indy Hall Arts Presents Sean Martorana’s
THE CONFLICT
between artist and artwork. Between captive and wild. Between lightness and darkness.
Opening Reception:
September 6, 2013 • 5:00 – 9:00
22 N. 3rd St., Philadelphia, PA 19106
Following a summer of Synesthesia, Indy Hall Arts is officially announcing their line-up for the Fall of 2013.
On September 6th, Sean Martorana kicks off the fall season with his newest series of work in his show titled The Conflict. While keeping with his signature aesthetic and approach, Sean adds vibrant elements and techniques to his work not seen in last year’s show, The Essence of Life and Line. Each piece’s background is organically created, provoked by minimal control and watered-down acrylic. Sharp, black lines over the surface strain to cage an underlying energy and universal emotion. Such is The Conflict between artist and artwork. Between captive and wild. Between lightness and darkness. The show will feature canvas paintings, including two large pieces, painted bottles, dried roses, a painted dress form, original concept drawings and much more. Be the first to view his work at the opening reception, starting at 6:00 on First Friday, September 6th.
On October 4th, Michael Heston takes over the space to erect a tent of carnival-influenced paintings. Bizarre, beautiful and captivating, Heston explores a playful fascination with strange figure studies and the strikingly absurd. “Clean, beautiful, colorful, playful; Mike’s hard work and dedication come to life in a truly unique way.” – Parker Whitney, Flyclops Games
On November 1st, Thomas Buildmore bookends the sequence of solo shows at Indy Hall. In our final show before the holiday season, Buildmore will showcase his urban underbelly influenced works, showcasing still-life figures that drool from the canvas, vandalised pop icons, and a collection of messy depictions that challenge what we regard as beautiful.
